Usage analytics

We record how SalamDFW is used so we can improve it: which screens and pages are viewed, which event types are browsed, and which events are opened. Each record also carries the coarse technical details your device or browser reports - device class (phone, tablet or desktop), operating system, screen size, language, and the approximate country the request came from.

Anonymous device ID (mobile app only) - a random identifier generated on your device on first launch, stored on your device, and sent with each analytics event so repeat visits from one install are not counted as separate people. It is not derived from any hardware or advertising identifier, and it is never linked to your name, email, or any account. You can switch analytics off or generate a new ID at any time under Profile → Privacy. On the website, analytics use no cookies and no persistent identifier.

Technical information handled automatically

Your IP address reaches our servers with every request, as it must for any website or app to reply to you. We use it to apply rate limits on the event submission, reaction, report, and newsletter forms so they cannot be flooded with spam, and to derive an approximate country for analytics. We do not store your IP address alongside analytics records and we do not use it to build a profile of you. Our hosting and database providers keep short-lived operational logs that may contain it.

Information you choose to give us

• Submitting an event - the event details you enter (title, description, date and time, venue, city, organizer name and website, registration link, topics) and any flyer or image you attach. These are published with the event once it is approved. The contact email you provide is used only to communicate with you about the review. It is never displayed publicly, never shared, and never added to the newsletter.
• Newsletter signup - your email address is stored so we can send you the weekly event digest. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
• Reacting to an event - a random identifier generated on your device is stored with the reaction, so that each reaction can be counted once and undone by you. On the website it lasts only until you close the browser tab; in the app it is kept on your device until you uninstall. It is not linked to anything else about you.
• Reporting an event - reports record the event, a reason, any note you add, and whether the report came from the website or the app. They carry no identifier of who sent them.

Location (mobile app, optional)

The app can ask for your location so it can pre-select the DFW city nearest to you. On Android, SalamDFW requests approximate location only. On iOS, Apple controls accuracy through the Precise Location switch: if you leave it on, iOS may provide a more precise position; if you turn it off, iOS provides a reduced-accuracy position. The app never requests background location. In either case, your coordinates are compared against a built-in list of DFW cities on your device; only the resulting city name is kept, also on your device. Your coordinates are never sent to us and never stored on our servers, and location is not used for anything else. You can decline or revoke the permission at any time in your device settings and pick a city manually instead.

Photos (mobile app, optional)

When you attach a flyer to an event submission, the app asks for permission to open your photo library. It reads only the single image you choose and uploads only that image, which is then published with the event once approved. The app requests no camera and no microphone permission.

Notifications (mobile app, optional)

Reminders for events you save are scheduled locally by your device. We do not operate a push service, and no push token or device address is sent to us.

What we never collect

We do not collect names, passwords, contacts, calendars, files, advertising identifiers, or any financial or health information. We never receive or store your location coordinates on our servers. SalamDFW contains no third-party advertising or cross-app tracking software.

We use this information only to operate and improve SalamDFW: to review and publish event submissions, send the newsletter you asked for, count reactions, act on content reports, understand which features and event types are useful, and keep our forms free of spam and abuse. We do not sell, rent, share, or monetize any of it, and none of it is used for advertising or profiling.

No third party receives your data for its own purposes. Specifically:

• Analytics are processed by privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics software that we run ourselves, on our own servers, under a salamdfw.com address. No analytics company receives your data.
• Service providers - we use cloud hosting, a managed database, a content delivery network, and image storage to run SalamDFW, and the mobile app checks an app-update service for JavaScript updates. These providers process data only as needed to deliver the service on our instructions, and may not use it for their own purposes. All connections use HTTPS.
• Maps - when you open a map, your browser or app requests map tiles directly from OpenStreetMap, so your IP address and the area you are viewing are visible to them. On the website, map pages also load their mapping library from a public open-source code CDN.
• Fonts - the website loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so your IP address is visible to Google when a page loads. The mobile app ships its fonts inside the app and makes no such request.
• App stores - Google Play and the Apple App Store distribute the app and report their own install and crash statistics to us in aggregate, under their own privacy policies.
• Legal - we may disclose information if we are required to by law.

The public website sets no cookies. Both the website and the app keep local copies of a small amount of data in your browser or device storage: your saved events, city and topic preferences, theme, analytics preference, and the identifiers described above. Those local copies stay on your device. Clearing your browser's site data, or uninstalling the app, removes the local copies, but it does not remove analytics or reaction records already sent to our servers. Cookies are used only in our private admin area, to keep signed-in SalamDFW staff signed in.

• Analytics - turn them off in the app under Profile → Privacy → Share Usage Analytics. When disabled, no analytics data is sent at all. The same screen displays your Analytics ID; tap it to copy the ID for a deletion request. It also offers Reset Analytics ID, which generates a new random ID and unlinks future usage from your past sessions.
• Location - decline the prompt, or revoke the permission in your device settings, and choose a city manually.
• Reminders - turn off Event Reminders under Profile, or revoke the notification permission in your device settings.
• Newsletter - use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to us.

• Analytics - no more than 12 months, after which it is deleted.
• Newsletter email - until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
• Event submissions - published events remain part of the site's archive, including after they have passed. The contact email attached to a submission is kept for moderation purposes and stays private.
• Content reports - kept as part of our moderation records. They contain no identifier of the reporter.
• Data on your device - until you clear it or uninstall the app.

Because SalamDFW has no accounts, there is no profile to delete. For anything else, email us at hello@salamdfw.com and tell us what to remove - unsubscribe an email address, take down an event you submitted, or delete the analytics recorded against a device ID. For that last one, tap Analytics ID under Profile → Privacy to copy it before resetting it, so we know what to look for. We will respond within 30 days.

To be precise about the device ID: uninstalling the app or resetting the ID discards the copy stored on your device, so future events are no longer linked to your past ones. It does not erase analytics events already recorded against the old ID - those remain until the 12-month retention window expires, unless you ask us to remove them sooner.

SalamDFW is a general-audience service. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email hello@salamdfw.com and we will delete it.

All traffic between your device and our servers uses HTTPS. Access to the admin tools is restricted to authorized SalamDFW staff. Contact emails and moderation notes are held server-side and are deliberately excluded from public pages, listings, and structured data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, which is why we keep what we collect as small as possible.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be called out on the website and in the app.
